Welcome to a A New Dawn Hippotherapy Program

We are proud to welcome you to this program which was developed to promote therapeutic horseback riding and Hippotherapy programs for children and adults with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities.

Therapy Through Riding

Our team of occupational and physical therapists and therapeutic riding instructors use horses as the primary tool to provide this effective, unique therapy to students two years of age and older.

A New Dawn is located on our farm in Mohrsville, Pennsylvania. We offer an indoor and outdoor riding arena, a wheelchair ramp, and an electric lift to assist our riders in mounting their horses. This allows us to provide year-round sessions to our clients. A New Dawn was created in memory of Ben Parto, the most excellent horseman we have ever known. Ben had multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair. Ben’s dream for the farm we now reside at was to promote independence through horses one day by offering a Hippotherapy program. Ben passed away in 2016, and we carry the torch of his dream with honor. Ben is also featured on our flyer as a reflection of how horses gave him the independence again he once had.

What is Hippotherapy?

The term hippotherapy refers to how occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology professionals use evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning in manipulating equine movement as a therapy tool to engage sensory, neuromotor, and cognitive systems to promote functional outcomes.

Best practice dictates that occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology professionals integrate hippotherapy into the patient’s care plan and other therapy tools and/or strategies.”
